Moeraki and Oamaru

We stayed at a campsite on Hampden Beach where we watched the sun go down amongst the giant pieces of driftwood. The next morning we got up early to seek out the rare yellow eyed penguins on the peninsula past the Katiki Point Lighthouse. We were lucky enough to spot one penguin sat up on the bank, and watched as he made his way down to the beach and into the sea. We had a relaxed morning chilling on the beach before heading off to the eccentric town of Oamaru. A town like no other, Oamaru has a big steam punk following and we had a lot of fun looking around Steam Punk HQ. The town has a very Victorian feel which locals embrace, with interesting shops, galleries and a whisky distillery. We had a great afternoon exploring the weird and wonderful, chatting to locals about the community they have created in the town. From Oamaru we headed off inland to lake Tekapo in search of the stars which were rumoured to be particularly spectacular that night.
